Skype Twitter Account Hacked, Anti-Microsoft Status Remained For 2 Hours

Skype Twitter Account Hacked, Anti-Microsoft Status Remained For 2 HoursIts only a day since the 2014 started and we have a number of security issues. Earlier reports claimed that Snapchat was hacked, which compromised some 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers in the process and now, its seems that Microsoft’s Skype Twitter account has been hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army. The hacking suspects took over the account and tweeted several posts on Anti-Microsoft sentiments. However, this is not the first time when the Syrian Electronic Army hacked the website/blog, there past successful hacks includes Twitter, The Financial Times and  even The Washington Post. The recent fake tweet which was posted on Skype Twitter account, advised three million Skype’s followers to stop using Microsoft’s services.

According to the tweet posted, “Don’t use Microsoft emails(hotmail, outlook), they are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments. More details soon #SEA.” This tweet was retweeted more than 8,000 times, and was deleted after two hours which means Microsoft got the control back after two hours. Another recent tweet posted, said “stop spying on people,”  which is clearly relating to NSA’s accusations. It seems that Syrian Electronic Army hackers has also hacked the Skype’s Facebook page and blog on Microsoft’s Skype website. However, we think there intention so far is only a part of phishing, and no news as user’s information are concerned. We have to just wait for Microsoft’s response on this hack. Stay tuned for more updates.
