Pico Neo Is First VR Standalone Headset With 6DoF Tracking [CES 2018]
Virtual Reality is one of the next big thing today and technology is making sure that it is available to masses with different ways of innovation. Well, Pico has recently announced a new standalone VR device at the CES 2018, the Pico Neo which claims to be the world’s first standalone device with 6 DoF (Degrees of Freedom) for both headset and motion controllers.
However, this Pico Neo is not the first product from the company, they have earlier launched the Pico Neo last year in April 2016; and trust me, the specs and features of the new Pico Neo seems to be much better than its predecessor. As far as specs are concerned, the Pico Neo comes powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB ROM which can be expandable upto 256GB using SD card to offer powerful and seamless VR experience. On display end, the Pico Neo features 2×3.5 LCD displays with each having screen 3K resolution (1440×1600) and refresh rate of 90Hz delivering an interactive premium viewing experience.
What sets Pico Neo apart?
The Pico Neo comes with 6 DoF i.e Total 6 Degree of Freedom for both head and controller tracking and positioning, It doesn’t use any external sensors to track head and controller movements but instead it uses ultrasonic sensors to keep track of the positions for about 160-degree field-of-view of the headset. This makes it as the world’s first VR standalone device that uses 6DoF headset and controller tracking.
How does Pico Neo works?
User have to just “Power On” the headset and put it on. Once the Pico UI launcher starts, the 6DoF function will start scanning the surrounding area and the controllers will be connected. Once the position and posture is adjusted to the correct direction the calibration of Pico Neo is completed. User can move easily as well as dodge attacks in the virtual world, and operate complex game reactions such as bimanual operation. Thanks to the refresh-rate and anti-interference optimization, the Pico Neo rarely gets choppy or loses frames and delivers and immense viewing VR experience.
The VR device is available for pre-order for a price of $749 but it is limited to only business customers and developers. We have to wait to get updates on its global availability. Till then if you are visiting the CES 2018 in Las Vegas, you can head over to the booth to get hands on the device. Also, you can head over to the official website to know more details on the VR headset.
